Detox

Our experience with medical detoxification for health professionals motivated us to create a program specific to physicians. Medical doctors are used to a high degree of autonomy and control, especially with regard to their own medical treatment. Before even entering a rehabilitation or detoxification program, many physicians facing substance abuse try to deal with the problem on their own. Their reasons for failure include an inability to leave their environment of abuse, continued unrestricted access to drugs and alcohol, and a failure to change habits surrounding substance abuse. Without addressing these matters, as stresses mount a physician attempting to treat him- or herself will only fall back into the cycle of habits for continued substance abuse.

Our detoxification course for physicians provides a practical, proven solution for these problems. We provide a professional facility staffed by addiction specialists including doctors, counselors, and therapists. All clients are continuously monitored throughout their stay (the length of which is variable, depending on severity and drugs of choice), and we are medically prepared to handle detoxification from pharmaceuticals, illegal drugs, and alcohol. Our program for opiates, for instance, has a 7 to 10 day stay and uses such state of the art medications as Buprenorphine (Subutex/Suboxone) to medically relieve symptoms and ease the process without creating physical dependence.

Continued Care and Treatment

After completing our program, many physicians feel that since they are now clean they do not need further formal rehabilitation or are capable of handling their program on their own. When such questions are raised, we strongly emphasize the need for continued care and treatment. While our detoxification program does touch on some rudimentary subjects of substance abuse and addiction, it does not sufficiently address such issues as using triggers, long-term relapse prevention, and environment. We believe that a strong understanding of the disease of addiction is important for physicians- both for themselves and for their patients.

For a physician struggling with substance abuse, we emphasize the importance of recognizing that addiction cannot be handled alone. For more information on our programs or for further assistance, please call us at 1-800-784-4791.
